DJ Hayes is a seasoned leader in business development and space policy with experience in intelligence, acquisition, and space operations within the Air Force, Space Force, and Intelligence Community, as well as in the commercial space sector.
He holds a Master of Science in Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research from the United States Air Force Academy.
DJ’s career in the public sector includes serving as an Intelligence Officer and Acquisition Program Manager in the U.S. Air Force. He has been at the forefront of integrating emerging national security technology into the DoD, including managing AFRL/RV’s Catalyst Accelerator program helping 100’s of startups connect with stakeholders and secure funding. As an Intelligence Officer, DJ led efforts to counter emerging space threats, supporting key missions at USSF, NRO, and USSPACECOM.
His government expertise encompasses operational experience, space policy development, defense acquisition, and program management, making him a trusted resource for navigating complex federal procurement and acquisition pathways.
In the private sector, DJ has worked in business development roles at defense-focused, venture-backed startups Orbit Fab and True Anomaly. At Orbit Fab, he drove the adoption of In-Space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) initiatives within the DoD and NASA, advocating for innovative solutions to advance U.S. space capabilities. At True Anomaly, DJ directed business development for critical U.S. Space Force programs showing his ability to bridge the gap between cutting-edge commercial innovations and government requirements.
As a Partner at Saratoga, DJ consults with commercial, defense, and intelligence organizations on integrating advanced space technologies into government and industry applications. He specializes in aligning these capabilities with national security priorities, helping clients navigate acquisition pathways, and fostering strategic partnerships.
